Robsten from an Expert’s Perspective

There has been a lot of doubt recently about the status of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s relationship. If you didn’t know by now, I am the Owner/Founder of strictlyrobsten.com, a Rob and Kristen fan site that focuses not only on their separate careers, but also on their relationship together. Over the past year, the Robsten debate has become a sensitive topic. The Robsten fandom polarized when the incriminating pictures of Kristen came out last summer, depicting an intimate embrace with her SWATH director, Rupert Sanders. Now, the TWILIGHT fandom has subgroups of fans: the Kristen fans, the Rob fans, the Robsten fans, and the Nonnies (aka the Rob &/or Kristen fans that do not believe there ever was a relationship between the two actors).
I have been a Robsten supporter since I saw the undeniable chemistry the two had in the first Twilight movie back in 2008. I always thought there was something special, something inexplicable about them that only over time would blossom into something worth keeping. It’s 2013 now and things could not be more rocky for the public image of the Robsten relationship. I’m no longer just a fan, I’m a fan site owner, and I am also in the entertainment PR industry (not representing them, per say, but actors with similar levels of fame). Perhaps becoming an entertainment publicist was a bad idea: for starters, it has opened my eyes to how FAKE this industry is in not only the scripts they read, but in the way they orchestrate their personal lives. Everything is about press now. You want good press (obviously), but you want ANY KIND of press because it keeps you relevant and in the “inner circle". Well that isn’t always true. Celebrities like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Bynes are testaments to the not all press is good press *cough* mug shots *cough* wigs *cough*
Looking back at July 2012 through a publicist’s perspective, I see a lot of red flags when it comes to how the photographs and the story was consumed by the media. The fact that they are at a very remote/random location (where NO celebrities have ever been seen before) and you see pictures of Kristen arriving to the scene but you don’t see pictures of Rupert arriving are all tell-tale signs that this was a classic set-up. I cannot fully speak for what happened that day because only the people that were there and witnessed it really know what went down. One more thing that must be pointed out about this circumstance is the fact that there are breaks in the pictures, like lapses of time between one position to the next. Paparazzi are famous for literally capturing every second of an event on camera AND photograph. So this leaves me asking, why haven’t we seen the video of this discretion? They video tape her walking through an airport or eating dinner with friends, why now did they decide to not use their camera to capture this media goldmine on video? My gut tells me that there is a video tape and on that video tape tells the truth to what happened that day, and the truth of that day isn’t quite what the media wanted to spin (or what Rupert’s team was paying the paparazzi to capture).
It’s been a year since those heart-breaking photographs were the headlines of all tabloids and entertainment news media outlets. What’s happened since then? Well, Rob and Kristen got back together, or rekindled their relationship, in time for the promotion to start for the last TWILIGHT film and press tour. Pictures of the two doing normal, civilian things like walking in their neighborhood with friends were released daily. Everything was fine and dandy until the eve of Rob’s birthday (the night of May 12) when a picture of Kristen hanging out with friends was accidentally leaked and an English boyfriend was noticeably absent. I personally didn’t think anything of it because Rob and Kristen have always marched to a different beat of their drum. I figured he was hanging out with his friends and she with hers. The next day, the fandom was eagerly waiting for pictures of the group and Kristen celebrating Rob’s birthday. Those pictures never came … however, pictures of Kristen supposedly distraught over something being discussed on her phone were revealed to an already unstable fandom. Kristen looking like she had tears in her eyes made me question, are these taken in the right context, is this really legit?
I remember thinking to myself,Oh, we’ve already been through this! We can survive, Rob and Kristen can survive! This is just another set-up as always .. we’ll see them together in a couple of weeks and everything will be fine. Well, it’s been just over two months now and we have yet to hear of a “reunion". My gut tells me that Rob and Kristen are still together, they just faked their break-up to get the media off their backs. Coming from a celebrity publicist, situations like this are common. It’s imperative that stuff like this be strategically orchestrated for the actor to remain in the face of the industry and in the minds of those that will hire them for their next role (but doing a stunt that will give you bad press won’t be helpful; it can do serious damage). Your name, your presence, your ability to draw an audience and make a film a box office success is critical; anything you can do to help that is necessary. I call it the PR Game.
What evidence do I have that things are okay? #1 Rob hangs out with Kristen’s friends (Riley) and Kristen hangs out with Rob’s friends (Jack, Marcus). #2 Their best friends are dating each other: Dakota and Jamie, Suzie and Jack. #3 He took the dogs when he moved out. We all know that Kristen is a huge animal lover, she’s mentioned many times that her dogs are her children, so if it were really a break-up, she would not have let him take custody. #4 Rob immediately came home (to LA) from Toronto after only being there for 3 days. He had to get back to his sweetheart.
I may be irrational, I may be in denial, but from my experience and my expertise on the matter, Robsten is okay. We will never get a tell-all book from either of them; but never say never, right?
