in Rome 2008 for the Twilight Premiere 2008
I normally reserve my flashbacks for Fridays, but i was asked nicely by a member to post up my thoughts surrounding this period in the Rob and Kristen musings...so here we go!
As you know, i am not afraid of voicing my opinion when it comes to matters of the heart or indeed when reading people my blog, my thoughts my choices right? As someone who has worked extensively in the field of Psychology for too many years to mention; i tend to have a very good tuning skill when it comes to seeing with my own eyes where there is a distinctive 'air of tension' around a person. Mainly because their body language gives off clear signals and their responses are either too quick or too slow to respond when asked pertinent questions. So take this photo above for instance, things may look alright from the outside. Two people standing together for a photo line up as they wow the waiting Italian crowd who had stood to catch a glimpse of Edward and Bella as they took to the Red Carpet during the Rome Film Festival, which included the 'Twilight' Premiere. What you fail to notice is the curled in motion of Kristen's arm as it wraps around her middle (protection) and the tell tale signs of stress around the corners of her eyes and mouth.

Well let me also tell you that many videos where uploaded of the Red Carpet arrivals where Catherine Hardwicke arrived first, followed close behind by Kristen. But as the car came to a stop and the door was opened for her to step out, it was clear that the door was closed again. Minutes went by and still no Kristen until finally at 4:02 mark - Kristen makes an appearance; followed closely behind by Michael Angarano (boyfriend) who walked away with what i would call a smug smile on his face. Kristen appears even more apprehensive as she jumps on the balls of her feet to the awaiting foreign press and photographers, including handlers and meets Catherine as Michael slips off - after giving the photographers another smug grin. She looks evidently stressed when Catherine comes towards her, even taking a shaky breath as she speaks to her director who automatically puts her arm around Kristen's shoulders as she talks to her, even rubbing her hand up and down Kristen's arm in a very 'calming' way like a mother would do to calm their child down. Yes she is nervous, public appearances are not the young actresses thing at all but there is more than just Red Carpet jitters that have got Kristen worked up...

There have been many suggestions including people who were willing to try and lip read into the conversation Kristen has with Rob on the RC when he arrivals to the thunderous screams of the fans. at 16:14 - Kristen says something to Rob who is smiling at first and then as Kristen continues his smile fades and she lifts her right hand up clenched towards his face as he looks down at it. From an outsider's perspective i would ask the question 'what is in her hand that is clenched, is it hurt or is there something inside of it?'

Setting aside that this was a neck breaking tour of duty both where put through as the 'World Premiere' approached, a lot was riding on this movie being a success mainly because the amount of money riding behind it, but it could also be a make or break for either of them. When it came to appearing at the Film Festival they had appeared chatty and humorous with one and other but you got a distinctive feeling something was off with them. Rob seemed more distant than his usual happy self, Kristen seemed more hesitant in her comments over the connection between them. By the time it came to the sit down with the fans after the RC, both seemed despondent and sad, as if something definitely was missing...

This image of a BTS moment that was shown to the fans in the audience in Madrid, where Kristen visited Spain with Cam, sent a loud cheer up around the room. Kristen pulling playfully at Rob's neck as she bites him can be seen as being playful, or can have a hidden sexual undertone to it. Either way, the fans loved it as it just the sort of image the rumours that had been dogging Kristen and Rob since they began working together fed the growing interest in the two, and it was clear to see they enjoyed the experience a bit too much?
It was Rob's comment in Rome however, that seemed to sum everything up. Especially regarding in my opinion, his feelings for Kristen.
Could he have been speaking about his feelings for Kristen; that he had fallen in love with her? After all, he had made it pretty well known in the interviews before and after that the only reason he wanted to do Twilight was because of Kristen. He had seen her in a little known movie and liked her from the start, and only on hearing she had been cast as the leading lady did he decide to audition for the leading male role. To make the effort, meant to put yourself fully into a relationship with that one person and no one else. Could he have been speaking about the situation Kristen was currently in; two men fighting for her heart and she being too indecisive as to who would win it? Did he try and put pressure on Kristen to make her mind up and choose - him or Michael, was that why he felt 'guilty' about it? Certainly the look on Kristen's face was not hard to notice, she looked visibly upset and what was more telling from my perspective was that Rob couldn't even look at her after saying this, confessing something so deeply moving and so deeply in his conscious thoughts that the pain was held there above them, i believe even Catherine would have noticed this as well.

In the case of the Rome Film Festival and Premiere; it was a time when both seemed to be at odds with one and other. After showing to the world's press how well they got on, how strong a commitment they had to the project of making a series of books into successful movies - in Rome they looked like two people on the verge of a break up. But how can that be so when Kristen was with Michael and not with Rob?

You can't help who you fall in love with. To say you can love two people is a lie you are trying to tell yourself because it doesn't work. You can have many emotions for many people; affection that can either be physical or emotional but when you fall in love, when you give yourself over completely to one person, no one else matters. The fact that Rob took from the character he was playing; a man who had went centuries not knowing what it was to be in love, to suddenly meeting someone who literally turns his world upside down. That all he can think about is the girl who has come into his life and filled him with a desperation of needing her all the time. A love he had never known existed until now...' pretty heavy emotions he has running around there. To put it in simple terms; Rob fell for a girl who didn't know he existed until she met him. Unfortunately she was involved with someone else but that didn't stop the emotional connection between the two of them. Try as he might to accept she was with someone, it was impossible because the feelings he had never went away. The forbidden fruit was there dangling in front of him and he wanted it desperately because he had already giving his heart over to it.

You don't have to because it is just my humble opinion of how i saw things go down during 2008. I saw a man fall in love with a young woman and despite all the obstacles that seemed to stack themselves against him he endured it - just like Edward had to endure his world turned upside down. Rob was very intuitive when he described his feelings about giving himself over to that one person and that is that, considering the plethora of rumours about him and various starlets all vying for his attention, they remained just that...rumours. He was putting himself out there to let the person he had falling for know that he wasn't interested in anyone else, only her. To let it be seen that she was the only person he cared about, and in turn...could she do the same?
2009, started epically with Rob and Kristen reuniting in Tokyo for the Twilight Premiere alongside Taylor Lautner. They were to begin shooting New Moon in a matter of weeks and the hype surrounding Taylor winning back his part as Jacob Black by putting on muscle and impressing the new director was all that could be talked about. BUT for me what was interesting, was the change in atmosphere surrounding Rob and Kristen; they seemed giddy, flirtatious and kept stealing glances at one and other. Was this the same two people that in October of the previous year could hardly look at one and other?
There was an air of mischievousness about Rob that was so telling, especially as Kristen seemed very obvious to his flirtatious sexual undertones. As Catherine plainly pointed out in her Times interview of the same year; 'Kristen decided to just go for it' meaning that her relationship with Rob changed and she decided to give it a chance, a proper fighting chance. Both had spent two months apart and in those two months a lot had indeed changed. Yes 2009; at least part of it, was filled with more spewed out rumours and rubbish surrounding Kristen and her 'love triangle' But my feelings have always been very vocal when i have stated it was all played out for the media's attention, as once again the same studio felt the need to influence the two stars lives by getting involved in them - for the sake of the franchise you will understand.
To say these two people have been put through the mill (figuratively speaking) is an understatement, yet all through this there was no falter in how they both felt. Many people have always felt it necessary to get the truth 'out there' to bring to those that wanted desperately for a romance to blossom some kind of hope. There have been rumours and there always will be around Rob Pattinson; he is the golden boy of Hollywood right now with everyone wanted to get a piece of the 'next best thing' whereas Kristen has grown up and grown into the kind of woman Hollywood can now appreciate. With suggestions she can be just as independent and forthright as the one who shouldered her through her first big movie - Jodie Foster. Rob will still be labelled with any woman within walking distance of him because the media and the fans want him to be a H/Wood bad boy and player. When in fact the British quintessential charm is less likely to break out and become lewd and suggestive, considering he believes strongly in commitment and less about getting his leg over just anything that strokes his ego, considering he doesn't have one to begin with.
People who are willing to make up rumours and feed the press frenzy will always be around, they don't like seeing an actor with charm and manners fall for someone so...plain and ordinary in their minds as Kristen Stewart is. They want him walking into a bar with a blond leggy model, who has less brain cells than those that sit in front of their computers day after day fantasising about him naked. They can't see the lengths this man has taken in making sure the one person he was interested in knew of his interest, even if it meant months of questioning his sanity while he waited..
There is no mistaken the emotional connection between them
I finish today's post simply with this. It doesn't matter where the rumours come from or who is making them, when there is nothing to come of those rumours, they just fade away. Press will try and make something out of nothing, stupid half brained studios will pay their publicists to try and make something out of nothing...hate filled jealous fans will try and make something out of nothing, but the truth is simply this...
Open your eyes and look at the evidence in front of you. Stop being so hateful and just accept some things are just meant to be. An actor prefers the support of those who follow their career and accept they have a private life that does not include the opinions of people on the outside; they also make mistakes and with those mistakes they grow just like everyone else.

It's fairly easy to lay the blame game thick and fast as to why a year later - Kristen is no longer with Michael and Rob is now in his place...BUT if you look at how it was handled and i believe it was handled pretty shabbily from my point of view, by a studio who didn't want what was happening or not happening in real life to overshadow the movie. At the end of the day it's all about the money and less about the people's lives you manipulate and use to get there in the end right? Rob's comment was filled with a sense of pain as he describes how he is not as dissimilar to Edward that when he falls in love with someone, it's that one person and that's it.

Pretty much the natural order of things isn't it?
